Sewol Ferry Tragedy - How come no one pays any attention to the course of the trial????

The Sewol Ferry disaster, so far, fully  exposed the ugly side of   Korean journalists who have produced sensational stories without checking the facts, turning 0.0001% possibilities into for sure facts.

Why don’t they  look carefully at the real facts revealed at the trial of the court?

It is four months since the trial started against the captain, the crew and others involved in the Sewolho Tragedy, On the 1^st of this month was held the 20^th hearing against the captain and the crew. More than 3,000 proofs and evidences have been adopted so far. More than 80 witnesses took a stand on the witness stand including surviving passengers, coast patrol guards, fishermen, and marine experts.

The number of the proofs and witnesses presented exceeds that of the ordinary criminal case by 3 to 10 times. Up to now, 340 and odd persons have been investigated, who are directly and indirectly connected with the marine tragedy. They are the captain and the crew of the ferry and other officials of Marine Union, the shore patrol policemen who have been allegedly connected with the irregularities of the marine operations. Out of 340, about 140 suspects have been referred to the trial on charge of being involved in the tragic accident.

Through this trial, all the wrongdoings and malpractices have been disclosed, committed by the ship owner blind with greed for making money, the marine transport authorities who have passed over the ship’s overloading and bogus fastening of the freight, coupled with the inexperienced navigator of third mate who has never navigated this sea route. It has also come to light that the coast patrol police, who are responsible for the rescue of those victims in a shipwreck, have never practiced or trained against the marine accidents, and that they even manipulated the duty diary.

These are the true facts disclosed through the concrete proofs and testimonies by the deponents in the course of the trial of the court and the investigations by the prosecution.

The majority of suspicions initiated by the bereaved families have been cleared. The images of pictures taken by the marine patrol police have made it obvious that there were no marks of any collision, explosion of the ship. It has been found that the documents of the National Information

Agency discovered in the notebook of the ferry are not applicable solely to the ship but to all the other vessels of Incheon district, requiring them to be handed over to the property of the government in a state of emergency. The crew member with a cap and a mask on was turned out to be a certain Mr Kim, an assistant engineer, not a special agent. The seaman who had entered the engine room just before the accident proved to be affixing a tape on the wall for painting. The temporary disappearance of the ship track was found to be happening frequently in other cases. It is confirmed that it had nothing to do with any breakdown of the engine or any disorder of the steerage. Some suspicions raised have been all confirmed to be groundless.

What is most strange is that no one who has been calling for the inquiry into the true state of this case is not paying any attention to the course of the trial in which extensive investigations have been made and important hearings have been conducted so far. The Minbyun (민변 - Lawyers for a Democratic Society)  issued 89 items of suspicions relating to the Sewolho disaster at the end of July.

The Minbyun (민변 – Lawyers for a Democratic Society) has been insisting on it vigorously that the right to investigate and the right to indict should be given to the special inquiry committee for fact-finding so as to clear this kind of suspicions.

By the way, if we look into the contents of the suspicions suggested by them, most of them have been already dispelled through the course of the investigations and the trial. If they were really anxious to know the real truth, they should not behave like that.

We cannot help thinking that their true intention lies not in knowing the truth, but in something else. They could not avoid being suspected of fearing to see their suspicions being dispelled by the unmistakable proofs and testimonies.
